You may have heard the phrase that the Lord speaks in a swift small voice. This is mostly attributed to the story of Elijah when the Lord passed by with a strong wind, earthquake and fire. The Bible further notes that the Lord was not in the three until a swift small voice came unto him.

The church has blindly advised children of God that the Lord only speaks in swift calming voice. This has made them miss the visitation of God severally. They will disregard anyone with a demeanor that is not calm and relate with only those that look humble and reserved. Sadly, they often land in the hands of the devil himself.

In church, there are standards to dating, doing business, dressing etc. I am not saying that it is bad to have a standard but oftenly, those standards are skewed and do not spring up from the throne of grace. In church, most people are taught to avoid loud and rowdy people while dating. They are taught to look for those that do long dresses and those that speak only ‘Christianese’.

In businesses they are taught not to be in business with unbelievers because the Bible says that we should not have any fellowship with unbelievers, a verse that has been put out of context more often than anything else. But Jesus says that we should use worldy mammon to make ourselves friends for the world so that we can be accepted into their eternal dwellings. Damn!

Because the child of God is taught to avoid the loud, the misfits and those that don’t fit into the confines of their doctrine. They land into the entrapping snares of the devil because first, they are taught to be judgemental. They are taught to be physical in their judgement and not spiritual. They go to the streets and see a prostitute whom they label as the devil’s agent and by that, they miss a Rahab.

They see loud, non-decisive people and remember their pastor told them that a man who cannot make up their mind is unstable in all their ways and they miss a Peter. They attract the attention of a tyrant in power with powerful dominion and they label them as the antichrist forgeting that the dominion they have is supposed to be theirs just in how Pharaoh’s dominion was Joseph’s.

I am not saying that you partake in their unfruitful deeds.

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

Ephesians 5:11 NKJV

All I am saying is that you have to teach yourself to be shrewd. You have played safe for too long trying to fit in, comform and please. How about you knew what is at stake? God’s name?

I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.

Matthew 10:16 NIV

Some people have had to be shouted at to leave their comfort zone. The Lord has pushed them out of jobs that stalled their progress through frustrating bosses. If indeed He only spoke in a swift small voice people would be stagnating in their comfort zones because most men love comfort. The Lord is very dynamic, He is not constrained by anything. He even sent evil spirits to Saul.

But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him.

1 Samuel 16:14 KJV

From the above the Bible clearly notes that ‘an evil spirit from the Lord’ went to trouble Saul. Dear sir or madam, does an evil spirit speak in a swift small voice? The Lord orchestrates occurences in our lives to turn every condition to be praiseworthy. It was through this troubling of the evil spirits that David would play the harp to Saul as the Lord orchestrated on how he would become the next king.

Now let’s dissect this Elijah encounter very well and finally crush the fallacy that God only speaks in a swift small voice.

Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire^]a still small voice.

So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

1 Kings 19:12 NKJV

So the verse above says that the Lord passed by and the wind, earthquare and fire came. All of them were as a result of the Lord passing by. The Bible says, ‘but the Lord was not in the wind’ but let me ask you this question, ‘who was in the wind?’ Most people say that it is the devil who was in the three elements. I have another question, ‘If it was the devil, does it mean that the Lord and the devil are competing for Elijah’s attention?’

Can we rethink and note that when the Bible says, ‘the Lord was not in the wind’ it is simply talking about Elijah’s perspective and not God’s? Can we say that Elijah failed to attune his antenna and see God in the earthquake, wind and fire? Yes, the Lord was in the three elements because the causing of the three elements was as a result of the Lord passing by.

So many times in your life, the Lord comes in as an earthquake, wind and fire but because you are so much attuned to the swift small voice and you only get the strength that moves things with swift small voices. You need to exercise your discerning spirit to see the Lord.

But the Lord wants you to shake things and comes in as an earthquake. He wants you to blow some things off and comes in as wind. He so much wants you to consume some things and he comes in as fire but because your spiritual antenna is attuned to the negative, you wouldn’t perceive that. He then comes to your level, to what you have settled for; fake humility, fake organization and decorum and speaks to you in the capacity you want to receive him.

This is why most Christians are not in dominion because they think the earthquake, wind and fire are the devil’s. They think it is evil to consume those already in power. They totally are unaware that creation awaits for their manifestation and that when they (the righteous) rule, the city rejoices. They will instead wait for Sunday to await their clerics to speak to them in a swift small voice.

Let’s meditate upon this

For God may speak in one way, or in another, Yet man does not perceive it.

Job 33:14 NKJV

The Lord is speaking to you now, do you perceive it? For how long will the devil present unto you the fake reality of your life? The reality that you need a doctor for healing, the reality that you need education for prosperity, the reality that you cannot have dominion without connection? Maybe it is time to attune yourself to the earthquake, wind and fire. You have been taking a deep slumber being comfortable with the swift small voice.

Most Christians think that the eloquent in speech are the real deal but what does Paul say about them?

And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.

1 Corinthians 2:1 NIV

Most Christians rely on human intellect, philosophers and theologians who speak to them with a swift small voice. They cannot stand a person who tells them ‘eat my flesh’ or ‘you cannot see the father only through me.’ They want to people to sympathize with them, they want to be understood and re-assured that everything is going to be okay.
