Who Are You?
If you ask someone, any random person the question, “Do you really know who you are?” they would probably point at themselves and ask you, “Me?” Others will look confused asking themselves why you would ask them such a question. Others would ask themselves, “And by the way, who am I?”
A previous very religious version of me would say,
My name is Stephen Siloma, mmmmmh…. I work at ….. and I do web design and graphics. I am a born again Christian. I actually do His work and I have never regretted being born again. I tell you my life has never been the same again. I am actually working for the Kingdom, I play the keyboard in Church and I run a popular youth ministry blog called Silomasays.
But deep inside that was not the case. I was just an ordinary person. In fact not just ordinary, I was a slave of the devil who testified that the Spirit of God was upon me. Deep inside I wanted to die and go to heaven. I was always in and out of hospital. I had these frequent tormenting seizures.
My pockets were mostly empty. I lived from hand to mouth and could not afford many things. I could sometimes not even afford three meals a day. In Church, I was admired to be such a devoted young person adorned with beautiful suits and amazing Church lingo.
Most young people looked up to me. Yes, they told me so. They told me they loved my decorum, my skills, my ambitions and how I served the Lord with passion. Deep inside, I spoke of God but I never knew Him. I was walking dead.
This is what religion did to me. I have written about religion in this post. For the early subscribers who now wonder why this blog which previously had 330+ posts now got very few totally different articles, let it be known to you that whoever is writing these articles now, knows himself.
So many Christians today are walking dead. They declare with their lips that Christ is Lord, they claim to know Him but they have never encountered Him. Most are fighting wars stirred by the devil himself while others are busy condemning others and themselves.
This is why the Bible says not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven
I was deep in religion but I got out. Want to know how? Read on.
Recently I was driving along Mombasa Road and the song I Know Who I Am by Sinach was playing. In the Chorus Sinach sings.
I’m walking in power
I walk in miracles
I live a life of favor
Cos I know who I am
This was once my favorite songs and I would sing it to the point of bliss and ecstasy. I would shed ‘spiritual’ tears in my private chambers because I was certain that I was experiencing the Lord. I was even pitying those who did not know Christ.
Even after the ecstatic feeling and cries of thanksgiving, my life was still a mess. I would still get seizures and more broke. I would then go back to my knees and start crying. Sometimes, in my wild thoughts I would ask myself, “What kind of a barbaric God am I serving? One who doesn’t care about me?”
I would then rebuke that thought and ask God for forgiveness immediately lest I be struck by lightning and die. Little did I know that that was the true voice from God simply asking me, “Why do you search the living among the dead?” An amazing post about this is coming. Keep posted.
I believe so many Christians today are in the same position. A place where they are choked by religion. A place where they are taught that they are not righteous. A place where they are told that they are unworthy of God and that they need to be sanctified to get God’s audience.
The God of Religion
Religion has really painted a vicious God. One holding a flaming sword ready to punish any evil doer. The same religion would paint the same God as so loving who brings back any evil doer to His fold but awaiting them to sin again so that they can punish them. What is sin? Is it about what you do? I would urge you to subscribe to this post as I would write about the true definition of Sin.
Religion has messed so many people’s minds. It subscribes them to the words of satan himself. It tells them that they need to help themselves first so that God may help them. It teaches them humanism. It teaches them that the supernatural God of miracles no longer exists.
I keep saying that satan works more in the Church but the Christians of today are so blinded to see that. Let me put it blankly – If year after year your situation doesn’t change then you are serving the devil not God. If year after year you deteriorate there is no God in your life.
I am saying all this with ultimate conviction because when when I started fellowshipping with the Spirit of God, my life changed and it is still changing day after day. I am literally moving from glory to glory. We serve a God of prosperity. It is not God’s will for you to be poor.
Those who have been avid readers of my blog know this. They have seen a drastic change in what I write now versus what I used to write. This is because of what I now have in me. The Bible Says in Matthew 12:34
For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
Many people think that they know God but he only exists in their lips and not their lives. When I was young, I used to ask myself why most poor people are in Church and the rich ones are not anywhere near the Church. The world taught me that God loves humility and that humility comes poverty. That’s not the case, you can read why.
Religion taught me that the rich are devil worshippers and that you must suffer in Christ because Christ and the apostles suffered. Most times I would ask myself why but I would quickly repent because religion also taught me that I should not question God because everything works for His good.
My drunk uncles were painted to be the devil incarnate. They were perfect examples of who we were not to grow up to be because they drank cheap liquor. It is so funny that we were never told not to grow up to be like the rich who drank expensive liquor.
It seemed like the devil dwelled in Chang’aa dens and tattered clothes but not in designer attire and expensive wine. To this day the same uncles say, “If that is the God you serve, I rather continue drinking my life off. If the people who serve that God are this poor, this confused, full of malice and slander and are in slavery like this, I rather have freedom in my own world.”
Back then, I would tell God to have mercy on them but later, I really meditated over this and realized that they had seen that religion was slavery and death which is very true.
Where Do You Get Your Identity From?
Most people get their identities from people’s definition about them or from their experiences. A rich person would call himself Sonko (A slang to mean rich in Kenya). A poor person will call himself names like Hustler or Maskini Ya Mungu (Loosely translated to a poor person of the Lord).
Most religious people stamp themselves name like chosen, highly favored and blessed. It is ironical that their lives are opposite to what they claim to be. Most people do not know who their are, the world defines them.
A good example is this. If one has failed several times in a certain field, they will say that that is not their thing but will also say that they can do all things through Christ who strengthens them. Shouldn’t they change that to be, ‘I can do some things through Christ who strengthens me?’
Some people get their identity from people e.g. their parents, their teachers and friends. Some do not live to their full potential because some their teachers or parents told them they will not amount to nothing. Some will not endeavour to make the best of their lives because other people’s words runs supreme in their lives.
A whole lot more draw their identity from the God of religion. The dead God who is incapacitated. The merciless God who is so complex to fathom and cares not about humans, the weak God who cannot do anything in the face of harsh pandemics like Corona and the weak God who no longer heals nor appears to men.
He simply neglected the world and gave them experts according to them.
Most people define themselves and then sing songs like Sinach’s I Know Who I Am. Most people just know who they are in times of trouble. They forget who they are in times of bliss and that’s why most people say that money changes people. It doesn’t, it actually reveals people’s true selves.
I got my identity from religion and that’s why I have a kingdom’s agenda to pull religion out of people’s hearts from its roots. It is my dedicated mission to fight against the dark powers that encapsulate humans into mere beings and teach them the true way of God.
Religion taught me that I am not supposed to ask questions. I asked a lot of questions but religion really condemned me. I was literally a slave. I felt unworthy and that’s why I tried so much with my flesh to please Jesus so that I can be accepted.
I knew that the true word of God were punchlines I got from my pastors. You should have seen me shouting, ‘Yes Passie’ when he said that I am a victor not a victim. You should have seen me affirming in a distinctive nod when he told me not to associate with the unworthy.
I wrote all those sermons, the sermons that still lie unread in my Google Keep. The sermons that I have never read once since I wrote them. Recently, friends of mine were laughing when I showed them a note titled, ’75 Scriptures About Alcohol’. They asked me, what kind of ministry was that?
I knew the Bible almost cover to cover, except the book of Lamentations, Song of Songs (I think the only verse I knew is that which says ‘Your breasts are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle’ that we wrote in high school letters) and of course Revelation because the contents there (and so as in the whole Bible) have to be revealed not studied.
Bible studies never changed my situations and neither did Keshas. Playing the keyboard in Church never changed my devastating state and neither did serving in most of the Church ministries. I got changed when when I stopped studying God and letting Himself reveal himself to me.
I got changed when I became a ready vessel, when I was willing to be molded. I got changed when I was willing to forget all I knew of a God painted by others. I got changed when I forgot the identity the world gave me.
This Is Who You Are!
The Bible says that we should seek first the kingdom and all shall be added unto us. But what is the kingdom of God? Is it heaven? Is it a city somewhere? It is a place restricted for just a handful? I will write about this sometime.
Most people think that the Kingdom of God is about being pure and blameless (the religious definition) and to be without sin. Most people are too blinded to see that all through the Bible God used people we least expect, sinners who no man would think they were to be used of God.
Others think that the Kingdom of God is about studies, deep knowledge of the Bible. The devil knows the Bible so well, more than you but he is not a partaker of the Kingdom. He fell like lightning from Heaven and that’s why he will constantly deceive man to take what is rightfully his.
It is time that the true son of God knows about his rightful position. It is time that the true child of God knows that they have dominion over everything God created. It is time that the true son of God knows and fellowship with God himself and not hear him from the testimony of others. It is time he is a testimony.
So forget about what definition the world has given you and know that you do not need to do anything to impress God. God is not pleased by your actions, he is pleased by the positioning of your heart. That’s why He says that He can use stones, soulless creations to serve Him.
God is not impressed by your knowledge of the Scripture nor how many souls you have brought to Him. Well, it is a commendable job, it is not in vain but God wants you to do more. God wants you to heal. God wants you to calm the storm. God wants you to end Corona. Sounds unreal? Well, once you know who you are it won’t.
In Psalms 8, David wonders
What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
For You have made him a little lower than the angels,
And You have crowned him with glory and honor.
I need not tell you that God really minds you. Even in your filth, even when you think you are very unworthy. God really cares about you He has made you His business. I am not telling you this so that you can feel good and amazing. No. I am telling you this because I know. Because He has visited me Himself.
David continues to say
You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet,
All sheep and oxen—
Even the beasts of the field,
The birds of the air,
And the fish of the sea
That pass through the paths of the seas.
I need not tell you that you have control over everything in this world. Everything in this world is under your command, be it beasts of the world, be it that extremely high paying job that you so wish or that $1M dollar home you would like to live. You may ask how?
The only way to be able to control everything in this world is by believing in Jesus Christ the Son of God. Jesus came to restore you to the rightful place. When He said it is finished, it meant that every tribulation, every pain, everything taken from you is now in your control.
Adam was given dominion but lost it when he ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Jesus came to give you back that dominion. Dominion over jets, immense wealth and everything that God said was good. You came from the Spirit of God and just as God is a Creator you are also a creator.
You are a creator of everything good. You are a creator of wealth. You are a creator of happiness and joy. All this is achieved by the power that was restored to us. The resurrection power of Christ as said in Ephesians 3:20
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.
If you imagine driving a posh car, you can have something greater like owning a jet. The power working within you can make you own an entire airport.
1 Peter 2:9 says that
You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Ephesians 2:10 goes on to say that
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
And the most crammed and less meditated verse is 2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Scripture about who we are in Christ are just fancy writings to many. They are just crammed Bible verses to help many in times of trouble. We get transformed when we are in Christ and that’s why after we have received Christ in our lives our spirits get activated.
Our spirits draw us to the light. It constantly shows us that we cannot be hidden under a bed, the dark bed of religion but we are placed higher on the hill to illuminate the world.
After receiving Christ most do not get transformed by the renewal of their minds they still live in their old worldly mindset.
How do you connect to the Spirit of God? Jeremiah 33:3
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and will show thee great things, and difficult, which thou knowest not.
With a contrite heart call unto God. Draw to Him and He will ultimately draw to you.
Conclusion
Most people call unto the Lord and He draws to them but they still live in their old ways. Their previous knowledge of God puffs up and they don’t get to know the true of God. One needs to be transformed wholly, especially their minds.
Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
As for me, I encountered the true God from a prophet of the Lord. He made me realize my identity and destiny. He helped me fellowship and hear from the Spirit of God and in turn, I got healed, money chases me these days like nobody’s business and here I am ushering you to the same glory. That man is none other than Prophet Elvis Mbonye.
I am sure some of you will find your identities from this post. Usher others to the same glory too. Tell me your thoughts on the comment section below and share this post with others.
Remember, you are not what your parent, teacher, leader or friend negatively say you are. You are what God says you are and I tell you that You Are An Overcomer, Period!
