Overcome The Flesh

The Spirit is Willing

How do you overcome the flesh? Most people believe that they are entirely made of flesh and nothing else. They think that they are just the person they see physically.

Most people, so long as they look good, have good dressing and reputation, that’s it for them. They think they are perfect but if their physical bodies fail them, that’s when they seek spiritual matters.

I was a master procrastinator. I would win titles in that field. I would postpone things simply because I wouldn’t want to do them or there was much time. I would rarely concentrate on one subject. I would do a million things at once.

I would just do the things I loved. I would always put things I never loved to do on hold until they become a crisis. Year after year, I would write new resolutions. For over 20 years, I have always been resolving to change, to be new again, to turn onto a new leaf.

I read all motivational books, I read the Bible, I never missed Church, I hanged around good people, I binge-watched tons of documentaries but nothing changed. I have never been able to go past the 21st day of a new routine if I was too lucky. Most of the time seven days would be my best.

I have written amazing schedules and put on sweet alarm reminders, I have had accountability partners, I have prayed and nothing was coming through. I have gotten devastated in the past. I have tried to quit on my goals and myself.

I remember a time I resorted to do the bare minimum. To live like the majority of people, eat, live then die. It never lasted 72 hours. A voice in me told me, “Wake up, this is not you!” We all know this voice. The voice that always tells us to do more. To rise above because we are called for a greater purpose.

That voice is the Spirit. The Spirit of God.

You Are Not Just Flesh

You are not just made up of capillaries, veins and arteries. You are not just a walking big lump of meat. You are not just what you see with your physical eyes. Sadly, the world tries to prove to man that they are just what they see. This devil instituted belief teaches that life is all about you.

This is why most motivational books and speakers teach about humanism. They teach that you can do everything through you who strengthens yourself. They teach that you just have to be strong and that’s it – Just do it, you know. They teach about overcoming the flesh with the flesh.

I have read tons of motivational books. I have immense knowledge on the worldly tips to live your very best life and achieve your dreams. I came to realize that most of which is said is just the Bible but without God, without His hand of might.

Motivational books will talk about how great you are, how you can do mighty things and how you have a greater purpose. The solution to the purpose they say, is to listen to your inner being. Your intuition will bring you the answer and you are to follow that. See, the Spirit of God has been replaced with intuition.

Motivational books never changed me. They gave me tips that lasted for months if not weeks. Tips on how to live your best now. Of course it gives you proven examples of people who have lived according to what that book says.

John 15:5 Jesus says that

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

With my motivational tips. With my urge to succeed and drive to find purpose I ALWAYS failed. The tips never lasted for so long. Why? They were given my man and man is finite.

Most Christians also live by this principle, they try so much with their flesh first and God comes in as a plugin. It is sad that most sermons in Churches today are merely motivational speeches and the name of God is mentioned as an add on, a spice to sanctify man’s thoughts.

Worldly Motivation Won’t Help

What does Jesus mean when He says apart from Him you can do nothing?

Jesus is the way the truth and the life. The Bible says that he came so that one may have eternal life. He came so that YOU may have eternal life. There is no other way apart from the way of Christ. This means that the ways of gurus and experts cannot even match the thought let alone the name of Jesus.

There is no any other truth except Jesus himself. Why have so many so ‘experts’ disproved other expert’s works? Wonder why many motivational speakers and writers live a life opposite of what they taught?

Life can only be found in Jesus. Not in anything worldly, not in humanism. Not in creating the world you so wish as they say. The world has already been created for you since the beginning of time, it is just for you to CHOOSE to live in it.

Most Christians know the abstract Jesus. They just know His name and that’s it. They have heard of Him from the testimony of others.

They speak highly of Him but their belief is totally elsewhere. They believe that He is above all sickness and diseases but would choose to believe the doctor who claims that some diseases are incurable.

Do you know Jesus? Most people think that He died.

John 15;26-27

“I will send you the Helper from the Father. The Helper is the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father. When he comes, he will tell about me. And you will tell people about me too, because you have been with me from the beginning.”

God is a trinity. the father, the son and the Holy Spirit. Most people separate the three. You are a trinity too. Does your soul, spirit and flesh exist as three separate entities?

Now, Jesus the man died on the cross but Christ is in us. Christ is in us as the Holy Spirit. Jesus told his disciples that when He comes He will tell about me. The Holy Spirit who is also Christ, reveals to us about Himself.

We all admire Jesus, the things He did, how he lived and all that but religion yokes many people to piteous sentiments like, “Don’t forget that you are human, you know Jesus was God.” Well, in nature you are but in spirit, you are someone greater and you can do greater things than Jesus, He even told you that Himself.

When the king of Aram wanted to kill Elisha, Elisha’s servant was afraid when he saw the Arameans in huge numbers. But this is what Elisha told him.

“Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

There is a world that exists around us that we cannot see with our physical eyes. Most people cannot exist in that world because they don’t even know it exists or they do not want to. This world transcends human thoughts, inventions and capabilities. But religion has yoked us into finite thoughts such that by seeing we may not see.

Your eyes need to be opened so that you may see. How? By wanting. Sounds simple right? Yes it is. The first thing is wanting to be in that world. A world of pure bliss, a world where impossibility is a myth. The Bible says that all we need is to desire and that if we draw close to God He will draw close to us.

To gain muscle, one needs to exercise their body. To be the best in what you do you need to work for it. To see things of the spirit, you need to seek things of the Spirit. You cannot subscribe to man’s ideology and want to live infinitely. The Bible clearly states that you cannot serve both God and man.

Conclusion

Jesus says

When he comes, he will tell about me. And you will tell people about me too, because you have been with me from the beginning.

The Spirit of God has told me about Jesus and that’s why I am also telling you about Him. Seers, experts and leaders in every field leave a margin of error. They do not have ways or techniques that are infallible. One sits to wonder why one who studied for years cannot be 100% certain on what they know.

The Word of God is infallible. Christ who lives in us is infallible. He makes us perfect. He refines us and you know what, you do not need years of knowledge. You need to become open and ready. You just need to submit to Him and He will reveal unto all the knowledge that man cannot fathom.

James 4:7-10

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
