All through my life, I have been asking myself the question why not every prayer gets answered. I have constantly wondered why life keeps pushing people around subjecting them into its paws stripping them of all power and control. I have always wondered why most people know the word, pray in the name of Jesus but nothing happens.
Let’s explore this verse:
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
James 1:22-25 NIV
We were having a chat with someone and we were talking about how people believe so much in the devil than in the Lord. They fear the devil more than they should fear the Lord. That person told me sometimes when they think that bad things will happen to them, they sleep with the Bible beside them and quote the scriptures saying that no weapon formed against them shall prosper.
It is so easy to think that you have faith when everything goes so well for you. You will think that you love the Lord because there are no challenges and difficulties in your life. Most Christians run like headless chicken when something is happening in their lives.
That’s when they go into a panic mode looking for other options like loans, seeking professional help (as they call it thinking professionals will give them eternal help) and texting the man of God multiple times affirming to them that they are doomed if God doesn’t come through for them. Some even get so entitled that the pastor really has to come to their rescue because they give them their money.
The Bible says
If you faint in the day of adversity, Your strength is small.
Proverbs 24:10 NKJV
The above verse teaches us that there is such a day like the day of adversity. The Bible says that the Lord tests hearts. It also says that everything will be tested by fire. If Job cursed and forsook the Lord in his time of adversity, he would be considered weak and you wouldn’t even be reading his story today.
The same applies to all the apostles, Jesus and notable people in the scriptures. They stood their ground, their strength was big in time of adversity. Jesus openly said that He is sending you to wolves. We cannot also refute that there will be no tribulation as he says;
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
John 16:33 NKJV
Most children of God have got no depth because they merely quote scriptures. Their strength is weak because they rely on horses and chariots. They have made their wealth, families, political connections etc as their horses and chariots. They have made their churches, men of God and the word of God their golden calves.
They want to be understood more. They want their men of God to relate with what they are going through rather than them solving their problems. They want words of encouragement through scripture to help them go through their hard times.
This is why you see so many children of God merely quoting scriptures when they undergo different things. Ironically, even when the Lord has really come through for them, the scriptures they post on their social medias, stories and statuses are just rubberstamps of show off.
As from today, stop merely quoting scriptures and start living them. Ask yourself, ‘What does it really mean when God says that He will never leave me nor forsake me?’ What does it really mean when He says, “By my stripes you are healed?” What does it really mean when the Bible says, “As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil?”
Let scripture be life to you. You can start by continuously and consistenly reciting the word deep in your heart like a mad man. Consistency attracts grace. This will help you change how you think as you are reciting these scriptures deep in your heart.
This will help you live the scripture, “As a man thinkeths in his heart.” Make it a practice to meditate upon the word daily without fail and consistenly allow the life of God in you. The Bible says;
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Joshua 1:8 NIV
The only thing for you needed to be prosperous and successful is the word of God. The word of God is in the Bible and in men. The condition however is this, ‘to do everything written in it.’ Are you doing or are you merely quoting?
From now, stop making your family, friends, job, business, connections God over your life. That’s just but bread to you. For some level, they give you bread but you don’t live by bread alone.
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Matthew 4:4 KJV
